Tamilerne er en mønsterminoritet. De tamilske flygtninge fra Sri Lanka er faldet godt til i en række jyske byer Der er kun knap 11.000 tamiler i Danmark, men tamilerne er en af de mest velintegrerede ikke-vestlige indvandrergrupper i det danske samfund. Arbejdsløsheden blandt tamilerne er lav, og en opgørelse, Integrationsministeriet foretog i 2011, viser, at 56 procent af de unge tamiler mellem 18 og 24 år er i gang med en videregående uddannelse. Dermed overhaler de deres danske jævnaldrende i uddannelsesparathed. De fleste tamiler bor i mindre jyske samfund, og her kendes de som en stabil og hårdtarbejdende etnisk minoritet.
Direktør for foreningen Nydansker, Torben Møller Hansen, er enig helt i, at tamiliernes integration er en succeshistorie.

”Min definition af integration er, at man som borger kan tjene sine penge selv, overholde landets love og deltage i demokratiet og desuden sørge for, at ens børn og familie har samme muligheder. Set fra de kriterier er tamilerne en yderst positiv historie,” lyder det fra Torben Møller Hansen.
