Da tusinder af srilankanske tropper blev overført til Kallaru knudepunktet forud for en varslet offensiv, foretog Kfir-jets fra Sri Lanka’s Luftvåben (SLAF) lørdag tre enkeltflyvninger over Mavilaru området i Eachchilampathu division syd for Trincomalee distrikt. Sri Lanka’s hær (SLA) fortsatte granat-nedkastninger i området, da stabschefen for den srilankanske hær, generalmajor Nanda Mallawarachchi, besøgte Kallaru området.

Srilankanske militærkilder i Colombo sagde, at luftslaget fortsættes i Mavilaru som forberedelser til troppebevægelser på land for at genåbne den lukkede sluseport i Mavilaru.


Kfir-jets fra SLAF  bombede Mavilaru området tre gange lørdag, kl.9.00, kl.11.00 og kl.14.00.


Athureliya Ratana Thera, leder af det singhalesiske nationalistiske munkeparti’s gruppe i parlamentet, Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) fortsatte imidlertid sin agitation i Kallaru med støtte fra de singhalesiske kolonister.


Sammen med supportere forsøgte Athureliya Thera lørdag morgen at gå til Malivaru, men opgav senere forsøget efter råd fra officerer. Generalmajor Nanda Mallawarachchi mødtes med de protesterende i Kallaru.



Keheliya Rambukwella, srilankansk minister og talsmand for forsvarsministeriet, fortalte Colombo-medier, at hans regering ikke ville rette sig efter nogen betingelser, fremført af LTTE gennem Den Srilankanske Mægler Mission (SLMM)
