Syv tamilske civilpersoner såret, og fire af dem indlagt fredag aften på Jaffna Universitets Hospital efter skyderi ved Puthur krydset fra SLA soldaters side mod den ophidsede skare, som  kl..ca.15.30 smed sten og kastede benzinbomber mod skildvagten. Senere satte skaren angiveligt ild til et af hærens køretøjer, forlød det. SLA soldater affyrede mindst 250 skud for at bringe situationen under deres kontrol. Mæglere fra SLMM ankom til stedet kl. 12.15 og forblev der indtil sent om aftenen, har Helen Olafsdottir fra SLMM fortalt TamilNet.

Fire demonstranter, en kvinde, Lyankan Ponni (70), Niroshan (20), Christie Clemanto (33) og S. Nagalingam (33), der blev såret af SLA soldater, mens de blev jaget bort, blev kørt til Atchuveli hospital en time senere, da SLA tillod ambulancerne at komme ind på området. Tre af personerne blev senere overført til Jaffna Hospital. Detaljer om typen af kvæstelser kunne ikke oplyses.


De andre tre civilpersoners skæbne kendes ikke, da soldaterne ikke tillod dem at blive fjernet fra området, forlød det.


Episoden fandt sted 1 km øst for Puthur krydset på Jaffna-Point Pedro vejen. Den østgående vej fra Puthur krydset, Puthur- Vatharavattai vejen, er blokeret for al trafik af SLA.


En soldat blev ifølge sikkerhedskilder såret ved sammenstødet.


Efter denne episode har unge sat ild til en SLA truck nær ved lejren.


Politiet siger, at de unge benyttede benzinbomber. Hegnet omkring SLA lejren er blevet brændt ned.


Mange landsbyboere er flygtet fra området. Der hersker en anspændt stemning
