Dayananda Dissanayake, valgkommissær, har indkaldt formanden for valgbestyrelsen samt vice-valgkommissærerne fra 25 valgdistrikter til en konference tirsdag formiddag d.30. august på sit kontor i Colombo for at træffe endelig bestemmelse angående arrangementer i forbindelse med præsidentvalget. Regerings-repræsentanter er udpeget som valgformænd i deres distrikter i samarbejde med vice-valgkommissæren, forlød det. 

Valgkommissæren skal på denne konference tage beslutning om tilstedeværelsen af udenlandske personer samt nationale civile grupper til at kontrollere præsidentvalget, da det forventes at blive et temmelig omstridt valg. 

Spekulationer svirrer i Colombo om, hvorvidt valgkommissæren vil bekendtgøre datoerne for modtagelse af nomineringer og valg til det forestående præsidentvalg på denne konference. 

Imidlertid afholdt Chandra Fernando, generalinspektør for politiet (IGP), fredag møder med vice-generalinspektører for politiet (DIG) i provinserne og hovedkvarteret i Colombo for at udarbejde et sikkerheds-netværk til at stå for lov og orden i valgperioden. Alle DIG’ere er blevet bedt om at sikre et ikke-voldeligt, frit valg uden mulighed for nogen uregelmæssigheder og beskyldninger om politisk favorisering, forlød det.
