Præsident Chandrika Kumaratunga’s Højeste Økonomiske Rådgiver, Mano Tittawella, der også er leder af Præsidentens Ekspertgruppe for Genopbygning af Nationens Genopbygning (TAFREN), udtalte torsdag, at etablering af en Fælles Mekanisme var nødvendig for ‘en ligelig fordeling af tsunami-hjælpen, rehabiliteringen og genopbygningen’ til de berørte personer, der boede i de områder , der ikke er underlagt regeringen.

På en pressekonference i Colombo sagde Mano Tittawella, at man må anerkende den kendsgerning, at der er områder, der ikke er underlagt regeringen og at regeringens indstilling er, at den ikke kan stå inde for hjælpearbejdet for de ramte i de områder, der ikke er underlagt regeringen.

Han sagde, at regeringens ønske, hvad angik tsunamien, er at finde en metode til ligelig fordeling af tsunami-hjælpen, rehabiliteringen og genopbygningen for alle, der er berørt.

‘Jeg mener, at vi skylder de mennesker at finde en metode til at sørge for, at alle bliver ligeligt tilgodeset. Vi, som bureaukrater, der arbejder ud fra tanken om at sikre, at tsunami-hjælpen, rehabiliteringen og genopbygningen går til de tsunami-ramte personer, spørger efter og leder efter ‘en mekanisme’ der kan sikre, at det sker’, udtalte han.
