‘Når vi mister soldater under kampe, vi forstærker vores vilje til at slå fjenden tilbage. Tab pga. Tsunamien er anderledes, specielt tabet af børn har dybt rystet os. Jeg har set mødre bærende på deres babyer i deres hånd, som nægter at acceptere, at de er døde. De fortsætter at kysse og kærtegne dem, som var de i live. Dette har været en svær tid for os’, fortalte Thamilini, overhoved i LTTE´s politiske fløj for kvinder, til TamilNet korrespondent i Amparai efter Tsunami-katastrofen.

thamilini beskrev sammenstødet af Tsunamien, nødhjælp givet af kvindelige soldater, og behovet for folk i Amparai, den mest udsatte område på Sri Lanka. Hun fortalte, at medierne var ansvarlige for at sprede ubekræftede rygter om, at LTTE rekrutterer børnesoldater blandt ramte folk. Hun beskyldte sikkerhedsstyrkerne for at have prøvet på at blande sig i nødhjælpsarbejde i Tamilske områder. Hun fortalte yderligere, at den Sri Lankanske regering har mistet en værdifuld chance for at bygge tillid blandt Tamilske folk ved at fejle i at udlevere nødhjælp retfærdigt.
