‘Vi har fået bekræftet rapporter om, at Den Srilankanske Hær (SLA) yder Karuna beskyttelse, og at det srilankanske militær forsøger at bruge ham mod Befrielsestigrene,’ udtalte den særlige LTTE kommandant for Batticaloa-Ampara, oberst Ramesh, da han talte til journalister ved en presse- konference, der fandt sted i Thenegam i Kokkadicholai lørdag aften.

‘Hvis den srilankanske regering forsøger at føre krig mod os ved at gøre brug af Karuna, vil det give alvorligt bagslag, og vi vil ikke tøve med at tage passende forholdsregler,’ sagde han. Oberst Ramesh sagde, at fire overordnede kvindelige soldater, herunder de militære og politiske afdelingsledere, der havde sluttet sig til Karuna, er genindtrådt i LTTE tidligere på ugen. Han sagde, at disse soldater meget snart vil afsløre detaljer om Karunas handlinger, når de snarest vil henvende sig til journalisterne på en pressekonference.

Han sagde, at singhalesiske medier i Syd og nogle engelske medier, herunder udenlandske bureauer med singhalesiske journalister, udbredte forvrængede informationer om LTTE under krigen. Selv i fredstid fortsætter de med at gøre det samme. Nogle i det srilankanske militær ønsker stadig ikke at se freden bryde frem, tilføjede Ramesh. ‘De tror, at de ved at gøre det kan skabe splittelse i vort folk. Men befolkningen har allerede gjort sig klart, hvilke medier, der udbreder disse informationer. Vort folk er politisk klogt nok til at adskille kendsgerninger og propaganda, sagde han.

Han sagde, at LTTE virker under en dygtig og erfaren ledelse og marcherer frem ad en pålidelig og forpligtende vej henimod opnåelsen af en rimelig og retfærdig løsning på den tamilske befrielseskamp.Ramesh tilføjede, at selvom visse episoder har fundet sted i de øde områder, herunder drab på medlemmer af LTTE, vil disse episoder meget snart blive bragt til ophør.
