To butikker, ejet af tamiler i Pottuvil, omkring femhundrede meter fra
Kanchirankuda-lejren for Specialstyrkerne i Ampara distriktet, blev brændt ned
af uidentificerede personer, kl. ca. 12.30, onsdag, sagde kilder i Ampara.

Butikkerne, ejet af Subramaniam Krishnapillai(50) og Rasiah Chandrakumar(50),
var beliggende i Pottuvil krydset, der fører til Roopaskulam, sagde civile
kilder.

Skaderne på butikkerne er blevet anslået til cirka 350.000 rupees.
Ejeren af den ene butik, Krishnapillai, fortalte vores korrespondent:’ Jeg stod
op på naturens vegne omkring midnat og så, at min butik stod i brand.

‘Jeg bor nær ved butikken. Jeg skyndte mig hen til stedet sammen med min kone og
så ca. ti personer, kun iført bukser, løbe bort fra området. Jeg blev bange og
gik ikke nærmere hen mod min butik, men holdt øje med det hele sammen med min
kone, stående langt borte fra stedet. Senere vendte vi tilbage til Sinnathoddam
ad en genvej.

‘Dagen før ulykken interviewede en L.T.T.E fotograf mig angående Kanchirankuda
episoden. Jeg forklarede i detaljer alt, hvad der skete. Min datter er gået ind
i L.T.T.E. Siden da har STF overvåget mine aktiviteter med mistænksomhed.

‘STF sagde, at jeg skulle klage til SLMM og sige, at L.T.T.E med magt havde
indrulleret min datter. Jeg fortalte dem, at min datter gik frivilligt ind i
L.T.T.E. Siden da har STF sommetider undladt at betale for de varer, de købte i
min butik’.

Butiksejeren sendte i den anledning onsdag morgen en klage til Chandra Nehru,
Amparai distriktets parlamentsmedlem for Tamil National Alliance. Efter at have
modtaget klagen, besøgte Chandra Nehru stedet og gjorde indsigelse over for Den
Srilankanske Overvågnings Mission (SLMM) samt lederen af Akkaraipattu Politiet.
Senere besøgte Akkaraipattu politilederen og SLMM stedet. Politiet har startet
efterforskning af ildspåsættelsen, sagde kilder..
