En 4 års lang rehabiliterings plan til en omkostning på 260 mio. Rs. er lige blevet sat succesfuld i værk i Vavuniya, Mannar, Trincomalee og Anuradha Pura distrikterne vha. den danske flygtningehjælp (DRC-Danish Refugee Councill) , oplyste Fru. Birgitte Ebbesen, Den Srilankanske lands repræsentativ af DRC, til pressen i tirsdags i Vavuniya.

Fru. Birgitte Ebbesen, DCR’s landsbys repræsentativ i Srilanka, oplyste til mødet med journalister i Vavuniya, at DCR hjælper familier som har behov for det fra Tamilske, Singalesiske og Muslimske befolkningsgrupper.

Til presse mødet deltog også DCR’s beskyttelses rådgiver, Zelah Sebior, en ny beskyttelses rådgiver som erstatter Fru. Senior, Chris Rush og planlægningsrådgiver, K.K. Ranjan.

“Vi udfører projekter for at forbedre leveforholdene iblandt forflyttede befolkningsgrupper. I samarbejde med 25 andre organisationer, bygger vi veje, skaffer rent drikkevand og hjælper de residerende i færdighedsudvikling til at gøre dem selvstændige,” fortalte Fru. Ebbesen.

“Mere end 25.000 folk fra omkring 6000 familier har allerede nu fået gavn af vores arbejde. Arbejdet, hvilket vi startede i 2001 med fond fra den danske regering og velgørenhedsorganisationer i Holland er planlagt at blive fuldført i December 2004″, tilføjede Fru. Ebbesen.

DRC repræsentative oplyste at nøje overvågede situationen relateret til det kommende valg og begivenhedernes udfoldning i de Østlige provinser og tilføjede dermed at disse begivenheder ikke berørte DRC’s rehabiliterings arbejde.

DRC’s programrådgiver, K.K. Ranjan, Lands repræsentativ Birgitte Ebbesen, beskyttelses rådgiver Zelah Eldre, kapacitets bygning og program rådgiver Fru. Karthikeyini Sabaratnam og Hr. Chris Rush, som skal erstatte den tidligere beskyttelses rådgiver.
