Jonas Gahr Støre, sagde i en erklæring, offentliggjort tirsdag, at hans regering
fordømte den igangværende krig i Sri Lanka, der har forårsaget "uacceptable
lidelser for de civile," i landet. Desuden har Erik Solheim understreget over
for parterne, at alle personer i konflikt-området bør kunne bevæge sig frit, og
at de civile, der flygter fra krigen, skal sikres en værdig og respektfuld
behandling under overvågning og kontrol af FN og internationale mæglere. "De
syge og sårede bør have adgang til behandling, og ambulancer bør kunne køre
uhindret ind og ud af konflikt-området," krævede
Solheim.

Udenrigsministeriet udsendte
tirsdag en erklæring om dette på norsk.
 
Den norske minister for
International Udvikling, Erik Solheim, som genetablerede sin position i norsk
politik efter sit aktive engagement i den srilankanske fredsproces, sagde:" Jeg
er dybt foruroliget over at høre om situationen for de civile, der er fanget
inde i konfliktområdet i det nordlige Sri Lanka."
 
Han opfordrede til at sætte alle kræfter ind på at
standse de civiles lidelser.
 
"Vi modtager informationer om, at antallet af
civile tab er stadigt voksende, og at de civile er fanget i krydsilden mellem
parterne. Dette er meget alvorligt. Både Sri Lankas regering og de tamilske
Tigre (LTTE) har et ansvar for at beskytte de civile og undgå, at flere civile
bliver dræbt."
 
"Alle personer i konflikt-området bør kunne bevæge
sig frit. Begge parter skal respektere dette. Civile, der flygter fra krigen
skal sikres en værdig og respektful behandling og kontrol fra FN og
internationale mæglere," sagde han.
