'International Sammenslutning af Tamilere' (IFT), udtrykte i en pressemeddelelse
torsdag skuffelse over misbruget af Canada's anti-terrorist lovgivning til at
"undertrykke de canadiske udlands-tamileres stemme ved at sætte den
verden-tamilske organisation (WTM) på terrorlisten" og stemplede andre vestlige
regeringers initiativer til kriminalisering af udlands-tamilerne som "meget
negativ og klart virkende mod hensigten."

IFT opfordrede regeringerne til at "sætte sig ind i
hovedårsagen til en konflikt, der har drevet hundred-tusinder af tamilere ud af
Sri Lanka og tvunget titusinder til at ty til væbnet kamp," og tilføjede, at
"ved at engagere sig i  udlands-tamilernes samfund vil det internationale
samfund kunne skabe en varig fred på øen Sri Lanka."
 
Pressemeddelelsen udtalte, at IFT vil hjælpe alle
initiativer fra internationale regeringer, der engagerer sig i udlandstamilernes
sag, til at:
 
*  Forstå udlands-tamilernes motiver til at støtte
den Tamil Eelamske kamp for selvbestemmelse
under anførsel af LTTE.
 
*Overveje udlands-tamilernes syn på strukturer for
det tamilske og det singalesiske folk om at sameksistere som lige parter på øen
Sri Lanka
 
*Øge udlands-tamilernes mulighed for at fremme
demokrati og økonomi i den tamilske stat.
