RajivaramanDen Srilankanske Tamilske Medie
Alliance (SLTMA) appellerede i et kommuniké, udsendt søndag, til den
srilankanske regering (GoSL) om at tage øjeblikkelige skridt til at finde de
involverede i drabet søndag morgen i Jaffna på Uthayan journalisten, Selvarajah
Rajivarman, udtalte kilder i Jaffna.

I Jaffna udøves der ustandselig forskellige former for
pres og trusler over for journalister og medie-organisationer. SLTMA betragter
drabet på Selvarajah Rajivarman på toårs-dagen for bortførelsen af den populære
journalist, Sivaram, som en forud planlagt handling. Selvom denne sammenhæng må
have vakt medieminister Anura Priyadarshana’s opmærksomhed, hvad angår drab på
journalister og de forskellige former for intimidering de bliver udsat for,
bekymrer det os at konstatere, at der ikke er blevet taget skridt til at stoppe
disse.

Drabet på Selvarajah Rajivarman er et tydeligt tegn på,
at GoSL ikke har taget skridt til at beskytte medie-personellet, specielt det
tamilske medie-personel. Uthayan-avisens kontor er blevet angrebet ved mange
lejligheder, og de ansatte er blevet truet adskillige gange. Drabet på endnu en
journalist har skabt frygt blandt journalister ved tamilske medier. Vi udsender
derfor offentligt en appel til GoSL om at tage skridt til arrestation af de
skyldige.
