Mødet
mellem LTTE’s politisk gren, S.P.Thamilselvan og Den canadiske Højkommissær for
SriLanka, Valerie Raymond, varede to timer. Efter mødet sagde Den canadiske
Højkommissær “mødet havde været nyttigt og konstruktivt”.

Den canadiske højkommissær for SriLanka, Valerie Raymond, besøgte tirsdag Kilinochchi og havde samtaler med S.P. Thamilselvan, lederen af LTTE’s politiske afdeling, i LTTE’s fredssekretariat. Den canadiske gesandt udtalte til pressen efter mødet, at mødet, der varede fra 11.30 til 13.30, havde været nyttigt og konstruktivt.



Det forlød, at mødet drejede sig om den øjeblikkelige status for fredsforhandlinger og den politiske situation i landet, og den canadiske højkommissær understregede over for Thamilselvan vigtigheden af, at fredsprocessen gjorde fremskridt.

Thamilselvan tilkendegav over for gesandten, at LTTE’s ledelse stadig tror fast på, at en løsning på den etniske konflikt kan findes udelukkende gennem samtaler. LTTE er klar til at genstarte samtalerne, hvis den srilankanske regering forsyner planen for strukturen af en Midlertidig Administration med tilfredsstillende magtbeføjelser til rehabilitering og udvikling af Nord og Øst.

James Shultz, en embedsmand fra det canadiske højkommisariet, og James Williams, en højere embedsmand fra den Canadiske Internationale Udviklings Styrelse, deltog sammen med den canadiske højkommissær i mødet.
