‘Den Internationale Sammenslutning af Tamilere’ (IFT) i Geneve, et konsortium på flere end 150 tamilske udvandrer-organisationer, anmodede søndag indtrængende det internationale samfund om ufortøvet at fordømme det brutale mord på tamilsk parlamentsmedlem og menneskerets-aktivist Joseph Pararajasingham under midnats ‘julemessen. IFT opfordrede det internationale samfund til at gøre Sri Lanka’s regering og præsident Mahinda Rajapakse ansvarlige for mordet. IFT udtalte, at Joseph Pararajasingham var en pragmatiker, der i over ti år, endda før underskrivelsen af våbenhvileaftalen (CFA), havde talt for en direkte dialog mellem regeringen og LTTE.

‘I menneskerettighedernes, demokratiets, religiøs og racemæssig harmoni’s og retfærdighedens navn appellerer IFT til det Internationale Samfund  (IC) om ufortøvet at fordømme det brutale mord på  tamilsk parlamentsmedlem og menneskerets-aktivist Joseph Pararajasingham under midnats-julemessen og at gøre Sri Lanka’s regering og præsident Mahinda Rajapakse ansvarlige for den afskyelige forbrydelse, begået gennem Statens Efterretningstjeneste og de paramilitære styrker, der opererer i Nord-Øst.’


 ‘Joseph Pararajasingham var en sand demokrat og fortaler for en fredelig løsning af det nationale problem i Sri Lanka. Han var en af grundlæggerne af NESOHR, ‘Det Nord-Østlige Sekretariat for Menneskerettigheder’. Han var pragmatiker, fortaler gennem mere end ti år, endda før underskrivelsen af CFA, for direkte dialog mellem regeringen og LTTE. Som veteran i TULF arbejdede han også for at overbevise parti-hierakiet om, at tamilernes frigørelse lå i at støtte LTTE i freds-samtalerne. Under det tidligere parlamentsvalg fremsattes flere trusler på livet imod ham fra paramilitære og fra efterretningstjenesten. Han overlevede dem alle for til sidst, under en midnats-gudstjeneste, at bukke under for en snigmorders kugle, hvilket var en hån mod ‘Stille nat’ og ‘Hellige nat’!’


 I Sri Lanka er ‘Alt ikke stille eller glædeligt’ nu, udtalte IFT erklæringen.
