Den Britiske Premierminister, David Cameron har sagt, at der bør foretages en uafhængig undersøgelse af Sri Lanka, der hævdes at stå bag krænkelse af menneskerettigheder under “nedkæmpelsen” af De Tamilske Tigre sidste år. Dette svarede han, efter et spørgsmål rejst i parlamentet af oppositionsmedlem Siobhan McDonagh. Siobhan McDonagh fortalte parlamentet at der var voksende beviser for påståede henrettelser og andre overgreb.
Sri Lankas regering som kraftigt benægter påstandene, hyrede den Britiske propaganda virksomhed, Bell Pottinger, til en pris af næsten 5 millioner dollars om året, for at mørklægge nyheder om Sri Lankas forbrydelser.
Oppositionsmedlemmet har ligeledes utrykt bekymring over dette Britiske PR firmas arbejde. Da dette ikke stemmer overens med den Britiske regerings bevillinger på mere end 13.5 millioner pund til humanitær bistand se sidste 2 år.
Sri Lankas regering hyrede i 2004 et lignende PR firma fra Belgien, til at arbejde for en terrorstempling i EU af De Tamilske Tigre.
Det var Briterne der i sin tid samlede den tamilske og Singalesiske stater under een.
